Project Updates

March 2:

We had our first backyard gleaning event! We had a drop off location and went out in different groups to glean trees. GleanSlo organized what house we went to based on the feedback form handing out the fliers. Total we collected/had donated 1,463 pounds of citrus.





















March 1:

Sustain students made posters for our event on saturday. we made 5 different ones.



February 24:

Sustain Students handed out fliers for our event. We went to highland and a few houses on grand. ​We handed out around 50 fliers. GleanSlo also had other volunteers had out fliers in different neighborhoods. 

February 22:

Sustain students joined Gleanslo for an orchard clean up day. We traveled to See Canyon were we moved branches and picked up trash. We helped clean an orchard that will donate its product to the food bank.

February 21: 

Kelton and Julianna met with Carolyn and Jeanine to talk about the backyard harvest event. We decided no to offer the service for gleaning individuals tress rather just to pick up and have a drop of location. Jeanine and Carolyn gave us 60 fliers to hand out. In addition they had other volunteers handing out fliers. Sustain students were also asked to makes signs and to pick up bags for collective fruit. 



February 15:

  1. Sustain Students drove around San Luis Obispo looking for fruit trees in residents front yards. We wanted to pick a neighborhood which we thought would be good neighborhood for a glean. We picked two streets which we could see held a substantial amount of fruit. On error with this method is we don't how much fruit are in backyards. 
  2. Sustain students met with Jeanine and worked on the flier! These fliers are going to be used to hand out to the neighborhood we choose to glean.

February 13:

February 8: Sustain students and Jeanine held a meeting. We decided on the backyard harvest project and started discussing steps for completing the project. Our first possible date for a backyard harvest glean is March 2nd!     



February 1: Sustain students participated in their first glean! We hot to learn hands on what the gleaning process entailed.



















January 28: Sustain students attended a GleanSlo board meeting. We got to meet the rest of the the board members. We talked about possible ideas their mission as a non-profit. 



January 25: Sustain students met with GleanSlo member Jeanine. We discussed possible project ideas and learned about the GleanSlo organization. 



January 21: We decided on a weekly meeting time and invited our community partner. 



January ___: Our group was formed and we partnered with GleanSlo!
